The International Skating Union Skating Championships 2017 will begin in Taipei on 15th March. Although Taipei has already played host to the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championship before, this will be the very first time this beautiful city gets a chance to play host to the ISU World Skating Championships.
Almost 200 skaters from forty three ISU members will be participating in the Championships this year. All the participants will take part in the Short Dance/Short Program. Based on the results, the top twenty four single skaters, the top sixteen pairs and the top twenty Ice Dance teams will be chosen to proceed to the next round, i.e., the Free Skating/ Free Dance round.
The Junior Men’s event this year promises to very competitive with plenty of talented skaters participating. The reigning champion, Daniel Samohin (ISR) will be coming in with the best pints of the season (226.53) and will be defending his title against the other skaters. Dmitri Aliev will be coming in with 240.07 points and Alexander Samarin will be coming in with 236.52 points. The audience should also keep their eyes out for Jun Hwan Cha, Nicolas Nadeau and IAlexei Krasnozhon as well. All in all, the audience can expect to see a very competitive season this year.
The prize money awarded at the ISU this year amounts to almost US$ 138,500. This includes the Championship awarded to skaters or couples placed from the first position till the fifth. The schedule of the upcoming ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2017 can be seen below:
